This issue has many opportunities that we hope will spark interest in research for many different fields of interest. Many of the summer research programs and symposiums highlighted here have deadlines for applications due soon. Research is a valuable way to supplement careers in many different fields, and provides a more insightful perspective onto your area of study. We hope that through these opportunities, students can be motivated to get involved in research they are passionate about.

Organization Spotlight

The Indiana University Journal of Undergraduate Research, or IUJUR, aims to promote undergraduate involvement in research. This is done through both article submissions to the journal, allowing an avenue for students to be published and celebrate their work, as well as undergraduate student editorial boards allowing students to experience the publication process “behind the curtain.” Find more about them, how to submit articles, and how to get involved at IUJUR.iu.edu.

Research Opportunities of the Month

The U.S. National Science Foundation funds a variety of research opportunities in many different disciplines for undergraduate students called REU Sites. Applications are open now and have a variety of different deadlines, but generally applications are due at the end of January and the beginning of February. Stipends and often housing and travel are provided, with many programs having an emphasis on students from diverse backgrounds and students who have not yet had experience with research. The 2024 Cesar Chavez Research Symposium is open for undergraduate submissions! The symposium highlights students conducting research on Latinx in the U.S. and intransnational contexts. Undergraduates, with the mentorship of graduate students and faculty, will undertake a research project of their choosing within this topic and will showcase the reserach during the symposium, held March 7-8. Applications are due December 15th and you can email the department to learn more: latino@indiana.edu

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Law and Social Science is now accepting applications for the 2024 cohort. This opportunity is open to current college sophomores and juniors, who will participate in Chigaco and receive a stipend of $6,000.
